Overview

Denbighshire Weather is a free, independent weather service for Denbighshire. This page explains what data is collected when you use the site, how it is used, and your rights under UK GDPR.

What data we collect

We collect as little data as possible. Specifically:

  • Your chosen town: its coordinates are used to fetch the weather for that town, and your browser remembers your choice for your next visit. We do not link it to you.
  • Language preference: your choice of English or Welsh is stored in your browser so the site remembers it. This stays on your device.
  • Server logs: Our hosting provider (Hostinger) automatically logs basic request data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. These logs are used for security and performance monitoring only.
  • Data request log: our server records which weather data it fetched and when (a town’s coordinates and the time). It does not record who asked.

What we do not collect

  • We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics platform.
  • We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
  • We do not ask for your name, email address, or any personal details unless you choose to submit feedback.
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Feedback

Messages sent through the feedback form are delivered to us by email using EmailJS. Any information you include (such as your name or email, if you choose to give them) is used only to respond to your message. We do not keep feedback beyond what is needed to respond.

Third-party services

Most weather data is fetched by our server, so your browser does not contact these sources directly:

  • Open-Meteo (weather, marine, air quality)
  • Met Office (weather warnings)
  • Natural Resources Wales (flood warnings)
  • AuroraWatch UK (aurora alerts)
  • Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (pollen and air quality)

Some parts of the site are loaded by your browser directly from other services. As with any website, they receive your IP address and basic details about your browser, and handle them under their own privacy policies:

  • jsDelivr (a code library on the feedback page)
  • OpenStreetMap and RainViewer (map and radar images on the Today and Radar pages)
  • Open-Meteo (past weather on the History page)
  • EmailJS (sends your message, only if you use the feedback form)

Cookies

This site does not use cookies. It uses your browser’s local storage to remember your chosen town and language, and to keep a copy of History data for up to 30 days so the page loads faster. This stays on your device, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Know what data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of any data we hold
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Because we collect so little data, most of these rights will not apply in practice. Please contact us if you have any concerns.
